Citera vs Linkody: AI Search Visibility Tracking vs Backlink Monitoring
Citera tracks AI-search and Google visibility; Linkody monitors backlinks. A sourced comparison of what each does, with Linkody prices and an affiliate note.
Brand visibility online can mean two quite different things: whether AI assistants and Google mention your brand when people ask questions, and whether other websites link to you. Citera is built around the first question and Linkody around the second. This guide compares what each tool says it does, using only the vendors' own pages, so you can decide which problem you actually need to solve.
A note on our position: ReviewPrompt is an affiliate guide for Citera and may earn a commission when visitors use its affiliate link. Because of that interest, we describe Linkody strictly as its own website describes it, and we do not rank either tool as better. We have not run either product ourselves. Everything below was read on the vendors' public pages on 21 October 2026.
What is the difference between Citera and Linkody?
Citera is a platform that tracks how your brand shows up in AI search and Google and then creates content and backlinks for you, while Linkody is a backlink monitoring tool that tells you when links to your site, or to your competitors' sites, appear, change or disappear. One is about being mentioned and recommended in answers, the other is about the links that point at a website.
The table is a summary of each vendor's own descriptions. A row that says a feature is not listed means we did not find it on the pages we read, not that the product cannot do it. Check the current feature lists before you buy.
| Feature | Citera | Linkody |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Tracks how your brand appears in AI search and Google, then produces content and backlinks for you | Monitors backlinks and link-building campaigns |
| Where it looks | Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Meta, Deepseek, Qwen, Kimi, Perplexity, Grok and Bing | Links pointing to your sites and to your competitors' sites |
| Content | Generates content 30 days ahead (blogs, Reddit posts, X posts, website fixes); you edit, deny, remove or approve it | Content creation is not among its listed features |
| Backlinks | Backlinks are part of its done-for-you service | Monitors links 24/7, sends email reports, offers a disavow tool |
| Competitors | Analyses your niche and competitors when you onboard | Link Intersect shows pages that link to your competitors but not to you |
| Reporting | Dashboard for traffic, clicks, keywords and AI-search visibility | Email link reports, PDF whitelabel reports, CSV export and an API |
What are the key details to consider?
- Citera focuses on AI-search and Google visibility plus done-for-you content and backlinks.
- Linkody focuses on monitoring links, with metrics, alerts and a disavow tool.
- Citera's site lists twelve places it tracks, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity.
- Linkody's feature list centres on backlinks and does not list AI-search tracking.
- The two tools solve different problems, so the choice depends on which problem you have.
What does Citera do, according to its own website?
According to its homepage, Citera helps you get recommended by Google, ChatGPT and other AI models without needing an SEO team, by connecting your website, socials and data to produce done-for-you content, blogs and backlinks.
The homepage lists these places as the ones it covers: Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Meta, Deepseek, Qwen, Kimi, Perplexity, Grok and Bing. It describes the aim as helping you "see how AI engines describe your brand, find the gaps, and improve your visibility".
Citera's onboarding step is described as an analysis of "your business, target audience, niche and competitors" to find opportunities to win visibility in AI search and Google. The page says onboarding takes 60 seconds, and that a dashboard then shows traffic, clicks, keywords and AI-search visibility in one place.
On content, the homepage says Citera generates content 30 days ahead, including blogs, Reddit posts, X posts and website fixes. It also states that you can edit, deny, remove or approve the content, and that the agent learns from those decisions. That approval step matters if your brand has rules about tone or claims, because you stay in control of what is published.
We do not quote Citera's prices, trial terms or refund terms in this guide. Its pages present several offers, and the details can change, so read the current pricing page and terms on citeralabs.ai before you decide.
What are the key details to consider?
- Tracks visibility across Google and a long list of AI assistants named on its homepage.
- Analyses your niche and competitors during onboarding.
- Generates content 30 days ahead, and you can approve, edit or deny it.
- Includes backlinks in its done-for-you service.
- Shows traffic, clicks, keywords and AI-search visibility in one dashboard.
What is Linkody, and what does it specialize in?
Linkody describes itself as a backlink monitoring tool to track your link-building campaigns, for your own domains or for your clients. It tells you when you gain or lose links, shows insights into competitors' link building and lets you analyse your link profile with a range of metrics.
Its homepage says your backlinks, and your competitors' backlinks, are monitored 24/7, with email reports about new links or changes of status. It adds that subscribers receive daily detailed link reports in their inbox. Landing pages are monitored too, so you are told when a backlink points to a broken page (404).
For judging a link, Linkody lists metrics such as Ahrefs Domain Rating, Moz DA and PA, Spam Score, Trust Flow and Citation Flow, plus Google index status and a Link Visualizer that shows where the link sits on the page. Its Link Intersect report finds pages that link to your competitors but not to you, which the site presents as link-building opportunities.
Linkody is also built for agencies. You can add team members or clients, assign roles and control domain access. Reports can be exported as CSV or as PDF whitelabel reports with your own logo, and the feature list mentions an API for connecting its data to your own tools.
What are the key details to consider?
- Monitors your links and your competitors' links around the clock.
- Sends email reports about new links and status changes.
- Alerts you when a backlink points to a broken page (404).
- Generates a disavow file that is ready to upload to Google.
- Supports teams and clients, with whitelabel PDF reports and CSV export.
How much does Linkody cost, and is there a free trial?
Linkody's pricing page lists five plans, starting at $14.90 per month on monthly billing, and offers a free 30-day trial with no credit card required. All prices below are as listed on 21 October 2026.
The Webmaster plan is $14.90 per month, or $11.20 per month billed annually, for 2 websites, 500 monitored links and 1 user. The Pro plan is $49.90 per month, or $37.40 per month billed annually, for 20 websites, 5,000 monitored links and 3 users. The Agency plan is $99.90 per month, or $74.90 per month billed annually, for 50 websites, 20,000 monitored links and 5 users. Two further plans, Advanced and Agency XL, sit between and above these.
Two details help when you size a plan. The website quota is shared between your own sites and your competitors, and each competitor counts as one site, while competitor links are free and do not use the link quota. The disavow tool is included in all plans. During the free trial, all features are available except CSV and PDF export.
How does Linkody enhance search engine visibility?
Linkody does not change your rankings by itself; it gives you information about the link side of your presence, such as which sites link to yours, when links are gained or lost and whether a link points to a page that no longer works. It does not measure how often AI assistants mention you.
That information supports a few practical routines. If you run link-building campaigns, daily reports let you confirm that links you earned are still live. If a page on your site is removed, a 404 alert shows that a link now leads nowhere, so you can redirect or restore the page. If you work for clients, whitelabel reports turn the same data into something you can send them.
Google's spam policies define link spam as "the practice of creating links to or from a site primarily for the purpose of manipulating search rankings", and list buying or selling links for ranking purposes among the examples. The same page says Google understands that buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web, as long as the links are qualified with a rel attribute value such as nofollow or sponsored. If you buy or exchange links, a monitoring tool helps you keep a record, but it does not decide for you whether a link follows Google's rules.
When do you actually need a disavow tool?
Most sites do not need one. Google's own help page says that most sites will not need to use the disavow tool, calls it an advanced feature to be used with caution, and says that used incorrectly it can potentially harm your site's performance in Google Search results.
Google says the tool is for cases where you have a considerable number of low-quality or artificial links to your site, and those links have caused or will likely cause a manual action. The file format is simple: one URL or domain per line, with domains prefixed by domain:, saved as a text file.
Linkody's side of this is convenience. It says it helps you identify potentially harmful backlinks across metrics such as Spam Score and generate a disavow file ready to be uploaded to Google. Whether to upload that file is a judgement call, and Google's guidance suggests being conservative.
Does AI search visibility need a different kind of monitoring?
Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary, so for Google's own AI features the starting point is the same as for ordinary search: a page that is indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet.
Google also says that sites appearing in these features are included in overall search traffic in Search Console and reported in the Performance report. That gives you a free baseline for Google. Its best-practice list is familiar: allow crawling in robots.txt and by any CDN or hosting infrastructure, and make sure structured data matches the visible text on the page. Google adds that you do not need to create new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup to appear in these features.
What Search Console does not show is how assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity describe your brand. That is the gap a tool like Citera addresses, since its site says it tracks those engines alongside Google. Given Google's statement, be sceptical of any tool that promises special tricks for Google's AI features, and judge Citera or any similar product by what it measures, what it produces and how much control you keep.
Which tool fits which situation?
Choose Linkody if your question is about links, and choose Citera if your question is about being mentioned in AI answers and Google and you want content and backlinks produced for you. If you have both questions, the tools do not overlap much.
Linkody suits an SEO consultant or agency that runs link-building campaigns, needs alerts when links change, wants to compare its link profile with competitors and must send clients branded reports. Its plans are priced by the number of websites and monitored links, so the cost follows the size of your link portfolio.
Citera suits a team that wants an AI-search and Google visibility view plus a steady flow of content without building an SEO team, and that is comfortable approving content in a queue. Its site describes the service as done for you, so the main work on your side is review.
Using both is a reasonable setup for a business with a link-building programme and an AI-search content programme: Linkody watches the links, Citera watches and publishes content. We found no mention of an integration between them on the pages we read, so expect to compare their numbers manually.
What are the key details to consider?
- Pick Linkody for link alerts, competitor link gaps and client reporting.
- Pick Citera for AI-search visibility tracking and approved, done-for-you content.
- Use both if you run link building and content together, and plan to compare the data yourself.
- Check current prices and terms on each vendor's own site before buying.
- Use Search Console as a free baseline for Google traffic either way.
How can you test either tool in a week?
Test a tool against a question you wrote down before the trial started, so the tool does not decide what success means. A short plan is enough.
On day one, write the one question you want answered, such as "which of the links we built last quarter are still live?" or "how do AI assistants describe us when a buyer asks for our category?". Record your current numbers in Search Console as a baseline. Linkody offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card required, and Citera's homepage has a Start free trial button, so check each vendor's current trial terms first.
In the middle of the week, look at whether the tool told you something you could not already see. For Linkody, that might be a lost link or a broken landing page you did not know about. For Citera, that might be a gap between how an assistant describes your brand and how you describe yourself. At the end, ask what you would do differently because of what you saw. If the answer is nothing, the tool is not solving your problem yet.
What are the key details to consider?
- Write down the question the tool must answer before you start.
- Record a Search Console baseline for Google traffic first.
- Judge the trial by whether it showed you something new and actionable.
- Confirm trial length, limits and cancellation terms on the vendor's site.
- Review any generated content before it goes live, as you would a freelancer's draft.
What are the limits of this comparison?
This guide compares written descriptions, not hands-on results. We did not test accuracy, speed or support for either product, and we do not claim that one produces better outcomes than the other. Features and prices change, and the facts above were read from the vendors' public pages on 21 October 2026.
ReviewPrompt is an affiliate guide for Citera and may earn a commission when visitors use its affiliate link, which is why we kept Linkody's description to its own wording and avoided rankings. If you only need to monitor backlinks, Linkody is built for that, and nothing here suggests otherwise.
FAQ
Short answers to common questions about Citera, Linkody and how they differ.
Is Citera a backlink monitoring tool?
Citera's site lists backlinks as part of its done-for-you service, which is about building them. Alerts on gained and lost links, link metrics and a disavow file are described on Linkody's pages, not in Citera's feature descriptions that we read.
Does Linkody track AI search visibility?
Linkody's homepage feature list covers backlink monitoring, email notifications, SEO metrics, Link Intersect, disavow, landing page alerts, whitelabel reports, CSV export and an API. AI-search tracking is not among the listed features.
How much does Linkody cost?
Linkody's pricing page lists plans from $14.90 per month on monthly billing, or $11.20 per month billed annually, for the Webmaster plan. It also offers a free 30-day trial with no credit card required. Prices were read on 21 October 2026 and may change.
Do I need to disavow links?
Probably not. Google's help page says that most sites will not need to use the disavow tool and calls it an advanced feature to be used with caution, intended for sites with a considerable number of low-quality or artificial links.
Do I need special optimization to appear in Google AI Overviews?
Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary. A page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet.
Can both tools be used together?
Yes, they address different questions. Linkody monitors links, and Citera covers AI-search and Google visibility plus content. We found no integration between them described on the pages we read, so compare their data manually.
Does ReviewPrompt earn money from Citera?
Its own site says it may earn a commission when visitors use its affiliate link to Citera. That is why this guide describes Linkody only in the words of Linkody's own pages.
